With the advancement of data science and technology, mankind is equipped to process and analyze massive amounts of data, and a new scientific research paradigm, data-intensive scientific discovery has emerged. The deep integration of the field of earth science with data science can bring new horizons to geologists to understand the material, biological, climatic and paleogeographic evolution processes of the deep-time earth.
The team tasks: pay attention to the basic theory and science and technology frontier of data, and the application of big data in earth science, especially sedimentology; engage actively in the Deep Time Digital Earth Project (DDE), build the knowledge system of sedimentology, and offer academic support for the sedimentary data platform; integrate global sedimentary big data to solve practical scientific problems; focus on major scientific problems such as sedimentary material evolution and circulation, climatic change and its magnitude at different time scales, and the mechanism of deep-time sea level change.
