From September 21 to 25, 2023, the 14th International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (XIV IAEG Congress 2023) took place in Chengdu, China. This conference, held every four years, is a prominent global academic event in the field of engineering geology. It was hosted by the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) and organized by Chengdu University of Technology and other esteemed institutions. This marks the first time the conference was held in China, centering on the theme of Engineering Geology for a Habitable Earth.

Professor Tang Chaosheng, along with Associate Professors Cheng Qing, Pan Xiaohua, and Shen Zhengtao, as well as four graduate students from our center, actively participated in this academic gathering. During the conference, Professor Tang Chaosheng delivered a special presentation titled Bio-Geoengineering Technology and Its Applications, while Associate Professor Cheng Qing discussed the Tension-Healing Mechanism of Desiccation Cracks in Clayey Soil. Associate Professor Pan Xiaohua presented an oral report titled Efficient Bio-Sealing of Rock Weathering Cracks Using Microbial Induced Magnesia Carbonation, and Associate Professor Shen Zhengtao delivered a special lecture on Enhancing Long-Term Effectiveness of Heavy Metal Remediation Based on Accelerated Ageing Assessment. Additionally, Ph.D. student Tian Bengang and Sun Chang submitted two conference papers (both accepted) and presented them as posters.
