On June 6th, at the invitation of Professor Tang Chaosheng and Associate Professor Pan Xiaohua from ECGC, Professor Chu Jian, Dean of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University and Editor-in-Chief of the journals Acta Geotechnica and Biogeotechnics, along with Biogeotechnics journal editor He Jieling, delivered an academic lecture titled "One-phase MICP and EICP Methods and Beyond" in Room 205 of Zhugongshan Building.

Professor Chu Jian, a leading figure in microbial mineralization technology, has been deeply engaged in the fields of Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) and Enzyme Induced Carbonate Precipitation (EICP) for many years. He has unique insights into the methods, mechanisms, and applications of mineralization. The lecture started with the mechanisms and processes of MICP, introducing the evolution of MICP technology from Simultaneous MICP treatment to One-Phase-Low-PH MICP, and further developing into One-Phase-Low-PH EICP. Professor Chu provided a detailed explanation of the impact of MICP and EICP on soil consolidation strength, the challenges encountered in method improvement, and the exploration of intrinsic mechanisms. He believes that by studying, understanding, utilizing, transforming, and applying microbial processes, innovations in the geotechnical field can be stimulated, leading to new geotechnical technologies that enhance the sustainability, performance, and safety of geotechnical engineering practices, ultimately benefiting society.

After the lecture, Professor Chu engaged in an in-depth discussion with faculty and students on related issues. The attendees sought valuable advice from Professor Chu in conjunction with their own research. Finally, Professor Chu and Professor Tang exchanged views on further academic cooperation in the MICP and EICP fields.

This lecture not only provided new insights and perspectives for ECGC research on MICP and EICP theories but also offered a valuable opportunity for our researchers to develop scientific thinking and enhance research capabilities.
