On the afternoon of November 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM, the doctoral dissertation defenses of Dong Zhihao and Lv Chao, members of our research group, were held in Room A205 of the Zhu Gongshan Building at the Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University.
The defense committee comprised Professor Shi Bin (Chair), Professor Jiang Ningjun, Professor Wu Zhijian, Professor Wang Baojun, and Professor Zhang Dan, with Dr. Xu Jinjian serving as the defense secretary.
During the defense session, Dong Zhihao presented his dissertation titled “Long-term Effect and In-situ Evaluation of Microbially Induced MgO Carbonation (MIMC) for the Restoration of Fracture Interfaces in Stone Cultural Relics”, while Lv Chao presented his work titled “Study on the Mechanical Properties and Micro-mechanism of Sand Solidification Based on Biomineralization”. Both candidates provided concise overviews of their topics, covering the significance of their research, dissertation framework, methodology, major findings, and innovations. The defense committee offered evaluations, posed questions, and provided constructive suggestions for improving their dissertations.
Following a comprehensive review and anonymous voting, the defense committee concluded that the dissertation topics were appropriate for doctoral-level research. The dissertations were well-structured, detailed, and rigorous. Moreover, the candidates adeptly addressed all the questions posed by the experts. The committee unanimously agreed to approve the defense results and recommended that both candidates be awarded their doctoral degrees.
