At the invitation of Professor Tang Chaosheng from our center, Dr. Yilin Gui from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, visited our center for in-depth academic exchanges. On September 25, Dr. Yilin Gui delivered an academic lecture titled "Modelling thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) behaviour of expansive soil subject to different scenarios " in Conference Room A205 of Zhu Gongshan Building. Dr. Yilin Gui focused on introducing his latest research advancements in the field of expansive soils. Addressing the issue of cumulative deformation in expansive soils under W-D cycles and thermal cycles, his team developed a constitutive model for expansive soils based on existing SWRC and BSP models, and verified its feasibility. These models can simulate the THM coupling behavior of expansive soils under various environmental changes, innovatively solving the multi-field coupling and deformation problems of unsaturated expansive soils in complex environments, thereby providing more practical theoretical guidance for infrastructure-related issues involving expansive soils.

Following the presentation, our faculty and students engaged in an in-depth discussion with Dr. Yilin Gui, connecting the talk to their respective research areas. This face-to-face interaction fostered a mutual understanding of critical technical challenges and cutting-edge academic trends in the field of geotechnical engineering.

Dr Yilin Gui is a Senior Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering in QUT. He is a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy and editorial board member of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. His research interests are focused on geomechanics, computational and constitutive modelling of geomaterials, Geoenvironmental Engineering. Recently, his research interest extended to sustainable engineered construction materials and engineering material circularity.
