Personal Profile

Dr. Yinlin Ji is a recipient of the Australian Research Council's Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA 2026) and holds the appointment of Jiangsu Distinguished Professor. Yinlin is now a tenure-track Associate Professor at the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Nanjing University, China and a Guest Research Scientist at the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Germany. He received his Ph.D. in 2020 from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. His research centers on geomechanics in unconventional geo-energy systems and experimental rock mechanics.

Yinlin has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in leading scientific journals, with 16 as first author and 9 as corresponding author. He actively contributes to the scientific community by reviewing for high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Geophysical Research Letters, and Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth. He also serves as a scientific handling editor for the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (Elsevier) and Deep Underground Science & Engineering (Wiley). In recognition of his editorial service, he received the 2024 Outstanding Scientific Editor Award from the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

Yinlin’s academic excellence and commitment to teaching have been recognized with several honors. He received the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award from NTU’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in 2021, the Best Teaching Assistant Award from CEE in 2020, and the Best Presentation Award from the Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology, Singapore, in the same year.
